West Bottoms Kansas City Photoshoot

Today, we’re here to bring a historical urban jungle goodness photoshoot!

West Bottoms is one of the oldest areas in Kansas City, located west of the newer downtown. Due to its atmosphere of rich culture and inner-city vibes, it’s one of our top 10 favorite locations to shoot! Whether it’s graffiti or just vibrant brick walls, there are so many epic backdrops to choose from! This is why it made such an amazing location for Grace and her senior photo session. Grace chose this location for all of the fun pops of color. And it’s always a treat for me, as. a Kansas City photographer to shoot here because the graffiti is different every time! Seriously. We’ve never seen the same artwork twice!

I first met Grace… well…. she was my neighbor… and she also was one of Leica’s babysitters. We moved from our old cul de sac last fall ( so now we have become former neighbor status). And now she is a graduate!! I swear all I did was blink.

Anyways…. Grace had allowed me the privilege of capturing her senior year in both the fall and the spring. You see… she got a vision in the middle of her fall session for what she wanted for her spring session… and we rocked it.

Her first session locations were downtown KC. We hit up the West Bottoms, River Market, Crossroads and Liberty Memorial before we grabbed some dinner at Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop. (YUM). We went out in the late afternoon early evening and had a wonderful adventure around KC together ( along with her mom, Connie and a dear friend of mine).

The second session she had this boho/hippie vibe she wanted to express with her new bell bottom jeans and then went to a classic red dress and onto a more hip torn jean outfit. Her outfit selections fit perfectly in downtown Parkville. It’s a wonderful place to photograph- there are so many beautiful nooks and crannies around that city. (FUN FACT.. when we first moved to KC we fell in love with downtown Parkville.. so it’s no wonder why I still love going there). And we always seemed to end out sessions with dinner out somewhere. This time we headed to Stone Canyon Pizza for some delicious pizza.

Regardless, I love to make all senior sessions unique and personal to my amazing senior clients. Each Senior I have had the privilege to photograph as brought some incredible moments to their sessions and I am always excited to see what my next senior does.
