A Backyard Topeka Wedding on the Fourth of July

When COVID-19 came about a lot of couples took various detours to get to their wedding day. Some sized down their guest lists, others opted for elopements, some pushed their weddings out to 2021 hoping we would have a normal year and some couples decided to forgo a wedding venue all together to have their wedding in their parents backyard.

What was perfect about Nick and Nicole’s wedding day/date was it wasn’t just the Fourth of July it was the anniversary of their first date, their engagement and now their wedding anniversary. Couples often times base their wedding dates on months or venues availabilities and others (myself included) pick special dates that mark milestones in their relationships. Nick and Nicole’s wedding day did just that.. PLUS… Nick has been creating his own fireworks displays since he was a kid- so it was even more delightful that he could create a fireworks display for his wedding day.

I am sure you are wondering how Nick and Nicole met.. here goes nothing:

“Our mutual friends josh and Reba had been trying to set us up for a long time but I wasn’t interested because I had just had Asher and they had tried to set him up before and it didn’t work so he said no. So they paired us up for their wedding as a bridesmaid and a groomsmen and the rest is history!” (Fun fact Reba and Josh were one of their bridal party couples)

What were you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?

“The firework show to wrap up the day!”

What is the inspiration or atmosphere you are creating for your wedding?

“Casual fun family get together"

What are the benefits of a backyard wedding?

  1. Backyard weddings often allow for a more intimate guest list. They tend to naturally be smaller than a traditional wedding venue. If you are worried your family might react differently to a backyard wedding- remind them… it is your day first and foremost.. you can note them that due to limited space you are going to limit your guest count.

  2. Sentimental factors come into play.. There is nothing sweeter than getting to say “ I Do” in your childhood backyard or maybe even your own backyard where you spend your summers gathering with your friends and family. Ultimately, you and your guests will feel more at home and it will create a lasting memory that you can reminisce on for years to come.

  3. FLEXIBLE DATES!! Thats is one of the most awesome parts about hosting your wedding in your backyard. You have the flexibility to choose what date is right for you and your fiance. Especially.. if you want to get married during some of the wedding world’s busiest seasons.

  4. Money can be saved.. even if you are renting tables, chairs and tents. You slash your budget pretty substantially when you host a backyard wedding because you are skipping out on venue rental costs. Even with the rental of items you are still going to save money in the long run.

  5. You have TOTAL ARTISTIC CONTROL.. I mean you can totally build your own dream wedding venue in your backyard if you have the time and energy to do that. Or you can literally opt to go as simple as possible. The possibilities are endless.
