Best Family Photo Locations in Kansas City, Missouri

When it comes to planning a family session, picking outfits for everyone might not be the only tough part. One of the most common questions families struggle with when planning a session is: where should we go for these photos?? Of course, I am always happy to offer up suggestions and ideas for your family but sometimes my clients like to let me know where they would like to go.

I’ve decided to make the process a little easier for you and scout locations for you. Getting the whole clan ready can be hard enough- the LAST thing you want to deal with is spending time researching and looking for perfect places to pose, right?

If you are a Kansas City native or you have chosen this area for your session, you’re in luck. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite places to be and photograph, in hopes to help make this planning process a little bit easier (and a lot more fun!)

Best places for Family Photo Sessions

EnglishLandingParkParkvilleMo.jpg

To start off, we have the English Landing Park in Parkville- this is a nice, bike trail location that is right on the Missouri River in Parkville, Mo.. It offers elements such as tall grass, the river, bridges, trails, and during Autumn, you won’t be disappointed with a lack of leaves for those gorgeous fall colors. There is even a playground at this location for your post session play time.

Next, there is Antioch Park. Located in Johnson County, it’s a great middle-way park location, especially for Brides and wedding parties. The landscape is full of trees, and also includes a playground for the littles that may need to run off some energy after they get their pictures taken!

Stocksdale Park in Liberty, MO is another area that showcases nature’s beauty. It’s a disc golf course but allows for great photos within its classic trail, tree, and sunset spots.

The Liberty Memorial is more of your Urban-vibe location with stairs and skyline views. There is a bit of greenery, but more of an industrial look with concrete buildings as background options.

Crossroads Art District (also known as Kansas City’s Creative Neighborhood) is an excellent spot if you want more of an Urban feeling with graffiti artwork, alleyways, and brick backgrounds. It is full of one-of-a-kind restaurants, unique boutiques, creative businesses, studios, and art galleries. First Friday’s are a MUST if you are traveling to KC for your session.

Next up is Jacob L. Loose Park and though a permit is required and requires a few weeks of planning, it is famous for its well-known local history, its rose garden, and many fountains.

The Plaza is a ritzy marketplace that features an outdoor plaza and is filled with romantic-European fountains and sculptures. This is a great space if you’re looking for unique architecture and city vibes.

Watkins Mill State Park is a beautiful state park, filled with nature and complete with a beach. It doesn’t get more classic “state park” than this.

KillCreekParkOlathe.jpg

You will find Kill Creek Park just outside of the Southern suburbs of Kansas City. The main feature is a lake, but also includes pavilions, ponds, and playgrounds. Again, a great option to make a day out of it!

And lastly, Shawnee Mission Park is a favorite in the area for its beautiful beach, natural scenic views, filled with forests, meadows, and ample wildlife.
