Winter Wedding at Shawnee Mission Park
Hailey and Greg
A few days into December I chatted with Hailey about her dreams for an elopement ceremony so she could share the same last name with her boys. (Her son Miles is adorable btw). Once Hailey got her 12 guests assembled she settled on Shelter 12 at Shawnee Mission Park… however we didn’t know what the weather would bring in January in Kansas but as luck would have it KC had a snow storm the night before their wedding day.
Hailey and Greg met at Tanners Bar and Grill where Greg works and their first date was at a Royal’s game. 18 months later we were at their wedding. My favorite quote from their wedding ceremony came out of Hailey’s vows referring to their first date when she said to Greg
“ You took me to the Royals game where we bonded over absolutely loathing hot dogs and funnel cakes”.
This provided me with a good laugh. I love that they shared their true feelings from the very beginning and incorporated that conversation into their wedding vows.
Though Covid encouraged a different perspective for their wedding festivities….. it was perfect and the location was beyond stunning. A few close friends commented on the atmosphere being reminiscent of a Colorado wedding with the lake, crisp snow and the overcast skies. I embraced the snow was crisp as was the air and the view for miles ( even with a few kayakers) was the ideal winter day.
Hailey mixed her bouquet with both real and fake flowers and she rented her dress from Flutter Dress Shop. The boutonnière and corsages were created by Hy-Vee Floral and they had their family dinner post ceremony at Red Door Lenexa.
I did ask Hailey two questions about her wedding day now that we are a few weeks past it just to gain some perspective to share with all my brides or those that read this blog.
What was your favorite part about your wedding day?
“My favorite part of my wedding day was exchanging vows, we made rules and sat down to write out our honest and true feelings about each other. The intimate wedding was so filled with love, only our closest friends and family made it easier to be vulnerable and open up.”
If you had any advice for a bride who was considering a small ceremony or eloping what would it be?
“My advice would be to think about what really matters... your future spouse, your family and the love between the people attending.”
